5 Twitter Advertising Options for Small Businesses

If you’re looking to increase your visibility on Twitter, you now have a lot of options when it comes to Twitter Advertising. The questions you have to ask yourself before you get started are what are your goals and how much are you willing to spend to accomplish them. In this post, we’re going to look at five options small businesses have when it comes to Twitter Advertising along with the results you can expect from each.

The Official Twitter Advertising Platform

First off, you have the official Twitter Advertising platform. To get started, you must receive an invite from Twitter or sign up on their Start Advertising page and wait for your invite. Then you will be able to take advantage of their advertising options including the following.

  • Promoted Tweets – Allows you to promote your tweets across the Twitter network for more impressions and clicks.
  • Promoted Accounts – Allows you to promote your account across Twitter for more followers.
  • Promoted Trends – Allows you to promote a trending topic. Available only to businesses with a high advertising budget.

The cost for advertising varies based on geographic locations targeted, keywords in your profile / tweet, and your current audience size. You will be charged anywhere from $0.01 and $2.50 (or more) per new follower during your Promoted Accounts campaign and $0.01 and $1.50 (or more) per click during your Promoted Tweets campaign. As an example, I spent $60 to gain 53 new followers out of 9,239 impressions to promote my account which already has 32K followers. I also spent $35 to get 111 clicks out of 7,379 impressions to promote a tweet, a tweet which only received four official retweets total.

Now that you have an idea of what you will get from the official Twitter Advertising platform, let’s look at some other third-party advertising options available to anyone no matter how big or small their budget is.

JustRetweet

justretweet

JustRetweet, one of the non-cash sponsors of the SMB Contest, is a platform where you can earn or purchase credits to be used towards gaining new followers and increasing retweets of your preferred message.

Using JustRetweet is easy. Simply follow these steps.

  • Sign in using your Twitter account.
  • Get credits by retweeting messages by other members, following other members, or getting new people to sign up under you as a referral (grab your custom referral link under the Settings page). You can also purchase credits from the Buy Credits page. If you purchase a package of 2,500 credits or more you get a free standard account at Blog Engage.
  • Go to your Settings and, under Followers, choose the number of credits you would like to offer anyone who follows you. The average offered is between 2 to 10 credits per follower.
  • Go to the Submit Tweet page to submit a tweet. You will enter a custom tweet, maximum times to promote the tweet, minimum number of followers allowed to retweet it, and the number of credits you would like to offer anyone who retweets your message. The average offered is between 10 to 50 credits per retweet. Members of the community will also have the option of liking the link in your tweet on Facebook for the same number of credits offered for retweets.
  • See the results of your promotions by looking under the Credit Summary page and browsing follow, retweet, and other campaigns.

Credits start at $0.01 each if you buy the smallest package of 1,000 credits for $10. As an example of the results you could get, you could purchase the 10,000 credit package for $65. If you wanted to get retweets and offer 25 credits per retweet, you would get 400 retweets for $65. Alternatively, if you wanted to get followers and offer 10 credits per follower, you would get 1,000 followers for $65.

One of the nice things about this community is that it does a good job of moderating spam so that you are only amongst those looking to share and tweet quality content. And because of that, your tweets will be retweeted by real people and accounts which is always a bonus.

Easy Retweet

Easy Retweet, one of the cash prize sponsors of the SMB Contest, is a platform where you can earn or purchase credits to be used towards gaining new followers and increasing retweets of your preferred message.

Using EasyRetweet is easy. Simply follow these steps.

  • Sign in using your Twitter account.
  • Get credits by retweeting messages by other members, following other members, or getting new people to sign up under you as a referral (grab your custom referral link under the My Settings > Affiliate Info page). You can also purchase credits from the Buy Credits page. If you purchase a package of 1,500 credits or more you get a free standard account at Blog Engage.
  • Go to the Gain Followers page and choose the number of credits you would like to offer anyone who follows you. The average offered is between 12 to 100 credits per follower. You can also go to Retweets > Recommendations and offer credits for people to recommend you to their followers.
  • Go to the Retweets > My Posts/Tweets page to submit a tweet. You will enter a custom tweet, maximum times to promote the tweet, minimum number of followers allowed to retweet it, and the number of credits you would like to offer anyone who retweets your message. The average offered is between 20 to 100 credits per retweet. Members of the community will also have the option of liking the link in your tweet on Facebook for the same number of credits offered for retweets.

Credits start at $0.01 each if you buy the smallest package of 600 credits for $5.40. As an example of the results you could get, you could purchase the 10,000 credit package for $50. If you wanted to get retweets and offer 50 credits per retweet, you would get 200 retweets for $50. Alternatively, if you wanted to get followers and offer 30 credits per follower, you would get 333 followers for $50.

EasyRetweet has a lot of other features beyond just Twitter advertising including the option to use credits to help build your list, get traffic to your website, and more. It’s definitely a service worth exploring.

Retweet.it

retweet.it

Retweet.it is another service that simply offers retweets. You can purchase packages of retweets starting at $20 for 80 retweets up to $180 for 1,000 retweets. Unlike the above mentioned platforms, you don’t have to offer credits to encourage other users to retweet your message – if you purchase a package of 80 retweets, you’ll receive 80 retweets. The downside of the platform is unlike EasyRetweet and JustRetweet, you can’t specify the minimum number of followers that an account has to have before they retweet your message. So unlike networks with influential members whose retweets will give you actual exposure and visibility, this network will just mostly give you retweets.

Sponsored Tweets

sponsored-tweets

Last, but not least, is Sponsored Tweets. If you’re looking for a celebrity in a particular industry to tweet your message (and you don’t mind paying them from $4 to thousands per tweet), then this is the network to choose. Note that your tweet must be approved by the person(s) you choose to retweet your message and it will be marked as sponsored when it is sent from their accounts.

There you have it – some options to choose when promoting your Twitter account for more followers and your tweets for more exposure. Which services have you tried and what have been your results? Please share in the comments!

Good to see that twitter has started their own advertising for small businesses & will be definitely using it before trying any other. I tried JustRetweet but stopped because i’ve to follow people which doesn’t suit for a brand because it shows you are following more than your followers. And also the people are not someone with whom you do trading. I’d like to see or looking an option where we can increase our follower without following someone.

You don’t have to follow others on JustRetweet – you can always buy the credit packages and just get others to follow you to help build your follower count without having to follow people back. I generally suggest going out and using tools like Followerwonk.com to find people who would be interested in your business, follow them, and start interacting with them to build quality followers.
